The KISD intermediate project "Attention... Please?" is a self-help journal I have written for young adults with ADHD, offering organizational methods to aid in their transition to independence. I designed it to enhance information retention, the book's layout and typography are tailored to make reading more enjoyable and effective for those with ADHD.
The cover, made of red cardboard with a screen-printed design, visually reflects the chaos of ADHD. Jagged "ADHD" lettering creates almost hypnotic waves, reflecting sensory intensity, while the smaller, solid "Attention… Please?" Acts as a visual anchor.
To make the book as engaging as possible and enhance information retention, I incorporated interactive elements, imagery, and visual metaphors. This approach transformed the project from a traditional informative book into more of a self-help journal.
Understanding that individuals with ADHD may experience engagement and overstimulation differently, I designed these interactive features to be flexible and user-friendly. They are highlighted in a vibrant blue, making them easy to identify so readers can choose whether to explore or skip them. Additionally, page numbers and headlines are marked in bright red, ensuring they stand out and making the book more practical as a quick-reference tool.
